Castaways, right on the water at the top of the Gap
Castaways is the first restaurant you reach coming into St. Lawrence Gap on the ocean side. Two floors built out over the water, with nearly every table on the railing and the sea straight below you, looking out at the open ocean. The top floor is open-air, with a cover for the rare night it really pours. The kitchen keeps it relaxed: Caribbean and seafood, grilled fish, stone-baked pizza, tacos. The bar runs a different sour at half price every day. The sunset over St. Lawrence Bay comes free with the table. Upstairs, the Barbados Magic Lounge is back with a new show this December, so you can do dinner and a show without leaving the building. Dinner from 5:30pm.

Also genuinely over the water
Primo Bar & Bistro sits just along the Gap on the sea wall. An open-plan room with tables by the water, looking across the bay, and a Mediterranean-leaning seafood menu. The other genuinely seaside table in the Gap.
Champers is a short drive west at Rockley, up on the cliff above the sea. Caribbean-international fine dining, an art gallery on site, and one of the island’s classic special-occasion rooms.
Tapas is on the Hastings boardwalk, with a deck at the water’s edge. Italian-Mediterranean and seafood. Easy for a long lunch or a sunset dinner.
Rooftop sea views
Cocktail Kitchen is a rooftop in the Gap, built around a serious cocktail list and a Caribbean ‘remix’ menu. The sea’s in the view rather than under your table, and the room’s loud in the best way.
Café Luna sits on top of the Little Arches hotel over Miami Beach, in Enterprise. A small, romantic rooftop with a wide south-coast view and a fusion menu.
On the beach
Deia Beach is further east at Oistins, with tables on the sand in a quiet cove. A beach bar by day, more romantic after dark. Mediterranean-Caribbean menu.
In the heart of the Gap, street-side
Café Sol is right by the Gap entrance. A long-running Mexican spot known for its margaritas, fish tacos and weekend crowd. Cheerful and loud, and easy on the wallet.
Harlequin has been in the Gap for years. An easygoing garden bistro, colourful and low-key, doing international plates, seafood and crepes.
Tabú is one of the newer rooms in the Gap. A more upscale spot, with fine-dining plates and craft cocktails.
So which one?
For white-tablecloth fine dining, Champers. For margaritas and a party, Café Sol. For a rooftop cocktail, Cocktail Kitchen. But if you want the sea directly under your table, the sunset over the bay and a half-price sour in hand, that’s Castaways, right at the top of the Gap.
